Suzuki looking to Indian affiliate to boost exports

marutiastar1.160.jpg

In 2007-2008 (fiscal end of year was March 31), Maruti Suzuki exported 53,000 cars. By 2010-11, Suzuki plans to export 200,000 cars a year from India--lead by the hot new compact A-Star. The fuel efficient car is the beginning of a line of cars Maruti said it also plans to introduce, which will essentially be a family of more fuel-efficient engines over the next three to five years.

According to the press release, "Maruti has said it plans to boost India domestic sales to 1 million units a year during the same period, to maintain its lead as the country's largest vehicle manufacturer and seller." Hey, you gotta give Suzuki some credit for being this aggressive and bold despite the global outlook in terms of car sales. With the A-Car, they definitely have a lot of opportunity to make things very, very plausible with these types of numbers.
