The Presidential Debate on Oil

gn081015_1.jpg

Tonight, Barack Obama and John McCain sparred about several issues, one of them being the dependence of foreign oil. While both of them postured according to (of course) negativity of the other's policy, they both agreed that the dependence of such would not be totally gone by the end of their term. In fact, Obama noted that it could take up to 10 years even with alternative energy means to be completely independent.

Both discussed different things as hybrids, off shore drilling, NAFTA, geothermal, biodiesel issues, and while these buzzwords were kind of thrown about, like many of the criticisms that have come from the campaigns, there's just no big deal plan in the works as to what to do. Obama did make mention that "we" as Americans started the Automotive industry and the degree that "we" have fallen behind is something we have to absolutely concentrate on fixing.

What will happen in the future? Well, with "Drill baby Drill" now meeting 75 dollar oil, it will probably dissipate for a while as oil supplies swelter and demand goes down. But believe you me, when the numbers shoot back up, the debate will rage on once again. Maybe by then we'll have some more defined answers and plans at that point.
