Toyota bowing out of 2008 Pickup Sales "Race"

toyota_tundra_news.jpg

Is it really a "race", per se? Or is it just that the winner that lurches across the finish line will have the least amount of scratches to its financial portfolio? Methinks it is the latter. And with that sentiment, it's no surprise that Toyota has decided to bow out of the pickup truck sales that the Big Three are continuing to tread water through. But it's not as if all has failed on their end, but it can be certain that Toyota would have little to no chance for a resurgence.

For last month, the Toyota Tundra sales fell a whopping 60%, as compared to the leader, the Chevy Silverado, which lost a comparative 3%. Ford dropped 41.9 percent while Dodge’s Ram was off 30.9 percent, but Dodge's drop can probably be assumed that it was due to the fact that people who were wanting to buy were holding off for the 2009 model.

Toyota has seemed to make a huge living off of the small cars and hybrids, so perhaps this move is a wise one to quit without fighting and concentrating on the other areas. Let the other guys duke it out for the trucks, and you can kick their tails in virtually everything else :)
