Toyota Prius adding solar panels and going greener!

prius-w-enviro-mssg-sm.jpg

Now this is what I call constant quality improvement. With the demand for Toyota Prius' still at all-time highs, Toyota isn't just resting on their laurels and riding the wave of hybrid-mania. Instead, news out of Japan is calling for the next generation of the Prius to include solar panels on the car which, when you figure in the extra energy this can produce, will allow the car to potentially run its air conditioning system off the panels alone.

This is a big deal, considering that A/C is one of the biggest deterrents to fuel economy. With Toyota already saying that their entire lineup will be of the electric hybrid sort by 2020, this again shows that this type of thinking is why they are on top of their game and therefore, the world. Basically, Toyota is saying--we're number 1, how do we stay there and widen the gap? Whereas General Motors is going "Hey, I think we need to make some changes to make sure we're in a better position."

Notice the difference? Forward thinking versus reactive thinking. In today's automotive industry, reactive thinking is deadly, and GM is showing that day in and day out. But with these things like Toyota is offering and improving upon, Prius will more than likely be one of those cars that we look back on a few decades later as the car that revolutionized the industry. And why shouldn't we?
