Toyota will be best selling car maker for 2008

I know this is one of those bittersweet announcements, but it's announcement all the same. Toyota, which swiped the title away from American auto makers in 2007, will repeat as the global leader for car sales overall. The Japanese automaker sold a total of 1.8 million vehicles through November, 185,200 more than Chevrolet.

With the downturn on a global scale with auto sales all the way around, having this title is kind of like being the city wrestling champ--you may be the top dog in one aspect, but in a big way you're really not....if that makes any sense at all.

When asked about the situation, General Motors really kind of scoffed at the notion that there even was a "contest", noting that they were focused more on profitability than competing with other auto makers for such "titles". Good plan...perhaps you should have thought about that a long time ago, gentleman?
