US Car Sales hit 15 year low

The age of living large is apparently gone to pasture. No, I am not talking about the obesity problem in the United States, I am referring to the SUV and large car mentality that we have had for the most part of the 21st century is going, going, gone--and with it are the dollars and sense (didja like how I did that? :) of the American public into the wallets of car makers.

The United States posted its worst car sales in 15 years for the month of March, but it wasn't alone in the world--Japan posted its worst car sales in over 3 decades. The fact of the matter is that with soaring oil prices as well as other offsetting costs that people are turning to cheaper, lighter cars, so even when they do make sales, it's not in the big money for big cars category, and in Japan, the younger crowd just doesn't seem impressed with the new lines of cars offered there.

Industry experts are saying this is just the beginning, and with Ford already pulling the plug on their production and even phasing out several SUVs and trucks that don't sell well, this could be a very dark time going forward and for those of us who are in the market for a car, a very nice buyer's market--but for the economy overall, not so much.
