US Prius plant to slow down production

prius_production_line_main_630-1114-636x360.jpg

While the Toyota Prius still remains one of the most popular cars out there, with falling gas prices and car sales continuing to flounder, even the Prius has not been immune to the decline. That being said, Toyota announced that it would be pushing back production at its Mississippi plant; the thing is, the Miss. plant has not even been completed. Yikes.

The decision has been taken to delay installation of the equipment required to actually build the cars, however, because there just isn't enough demand to support the extra production. “This likely means that start of production will be delayed. Due to the uncertainty of the market, it is impossible to say at this time when production will begin,” said Toyota in a statement.

While the plant construction is about 90% done, it is not really a huge thundering of news with this announcement; in fact, it has been rumored for well over a month that this would be a likelihood.
