VW cruises past Ford in global sales

I hate to keep beating a dead horse, beating the same drum, rehashing the same type of doldrum news, but unfortunately, things are what they are. And for Ford, the bad news continues. After its release of its huge losses in the second quarter, there is now news that Volkswagen has become the world's number three in global car sales.

Ford was previously passed up by Toyota in 2003 as the world's number 2, and with the way things have been going, again this is no surprise that this is happening. VW Group sales roles 7.2 percent to 3.31 million vehicles so far this year. Meanwhile, Ford sales dropped 11 percent to 3.09 million units.

Buoyed by continued European sales success as well as the shift to small cars in which VW already has had several models for consumers to jump onboard with, the German car maker will probably continue its rise and may very well even knock on GM's door over the next years if things continue the path they have been going for some time.
