VW narrowing choices of new plant

VW.jpg

Michigan has long been a haven for automakers, which has largely been known across the world. However, Motor City won’t have a new resident when Volkswagen opens up its new facility as soon as 2011. It appears that the announcement of the new 788 million dollar facility, which is to come on July 8, has been narrowed down to Tennessee and Alabama.

This news really isn’t all that surprising. VW has had sort of a bloody history (sort of?) with the United Auto Workers, and while this was probably something that was exactly needed for the spiraling state, it isn’t going to happen—sorry folks. It has not yet been determined as to which models VW is going to build, but word on the street is that with this type of investment that it will be flexible and will allow for an array of models able to built there.

As a country, this is great news. Whomever gets the call, be it Tennessee or ‘Bama, the jobs this will create will certainly give a little bit of infusion into the economy. Perhaps it’s just a drop in the bucket, but every little bit helps.
