Who will replace Wagoner?

After Barack Obama went on record that with the bailout money finalized that it also may be time to think about replacing some of the executives in charge, there has been a flurry of rumors and predictions as to who this will affect on a first basis and other saving graces if the execs aren't replaced. With Obama making statements as “The last thing I want to see happen is for the auto industry to disappear, but I’m also concerned that we don’t put $10 billion or $20 billion or $30 billion or whatever billion dollars into an industry, and then, six months to a year later, they come back hat in hand and say, ‘Give me more.’” it is clear that there needs to be changes--now.

CNNMoney discussed the possibilities of replacing General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner, much in due part because of the fact that it appears GM is in the most dire need and he has been the central figure responsible for the company making a huge nosedive. Internally, GM COO Fritz Henderson seems a likely choice, but the car maker may be best served to go outside; I mean, Henderson WAS a part of the company's demise, right? How about some fresh blood?

So, therefore, the two biggest hyped successors seem to lie in between Renault/Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn and GE Ceo Jack Welch. Both bring huge pros as well as cons, so it really could be a question as to what risk is least potentially damaging to the company and the country? While Congress may be skeptical to put in Ghosn as a foreign CEO with already a lot of power in Europe and Japan, having those ties can't be a bad thing either. Welch has a hugely positive track record but may not be willing to take on that much pressure and compensation drop.

Regardless, it appears that change is a happenin', just like Obama promised, right?
