Will Nanos do well for fuel prices? Na, no

tata_nano.03.jpg

Ok, so most close to the auto industry should know the humongous impact that the Tata Nano is making on the Indian car economy, where it is touted as the cheapest car in the world and looks like a squished VW bug. Still, it boasts 54 mpg, and considering the crowded and dangerous road systems in India, it's a death trap waiting to spring, but for those who couldn't afford now, there are hundreds of thousands of motorists who will be joining the fun-fun gridlock throughout India.

And the next place for the Nanos to be sold? China--yes, that's right, the most populated country in the world. Now, one would THINK that this means that with wonderful gas mileage that the demand for fuel would be, well at the minimum, a non-issue. But as CNN has reported, the increase in drivers alone will spike the need for gas in both places, therefore placing a huge crunch on supplies and ultimately driving up gas prices to possibly 4 or 5 dollars a gallon by 2015.

While I still believe that the gas economy on a worldwide scale could be limited for all of the millions upon billions these company make in profit and we should focus our attention on a global scale to stop the anti-trust and greed issues, you can't ignore that while this may be better on a green level, the only green it's good for is more the environment, and obviously not on the green in our wallets.

Ugh. Sorry, kids, no college for you, Dad has to drive to work today.
