Will there be a Mazda 6 hybrid? Nope

upload.jpg

The 2009 Mazda 6 will be able to give some great efficiency for the owners that choose to purchase it--there's no doubting that. However, when Mazda stated that there are no plans to develop a hybrid version of the car, it was a little puzzling as to why.

The 2009 Mazda 6 will come in a 2.5L four-cylinder and the larger 3.7L V6 delivering city/highway EPA ratings of 20/29 mpg and 17/25 mpg respectively, which are not terrible numbers, but obvious ones that can be improved upon. With the amount of cars that are being researched for alternative fuel methods, including hydrogen, electric hybrids, you name it--it is being discussed. So, with the push for this type of advance, why wouldn't Mazda at least consider this option?

When asked, the spokesman almost sounded a little smug--saying that they feel "Our real-world MPG numbers will be strong, and we just think the fuel economy is pretty good the way it is." Hmmm..sounds like a familiar tune that GM and Ford used to sing, doesn't it? Don't be foolish, Mazda...
