You want Alfa Romeo's Mi.To in the US? Me too!

ar_mito_web2.jpg

Alfa Romeo is following the concept of BMW with the Mini Cooper, having a class car in a small package. It is the paradox of paradoxes: in the car world, it's been more apt for the bigger the gas guzzler and overall size, the bigger the price tag. For smaller economical cars, besides the green cars, the price tag is a bit smaller--it's all relative. But with the Mini Cooper, the price tag is much more than what normal is for smaller cars, and the Alfa Romeo Mi.To is following the same idea.

Even though it is only being released in July around the Euro market, Alfa Romeo is looking to sell 70 to 75K of the units then, yet the challenge financially for the company is that it needs to sell a total of 300K units by 2010 in order for stockholders to really start turning a profit. So the question is--when is it going to be offered in the United States?

Well, it probably will, but not for a bit--and Alfa Romeo has not announced this officially. However, the Mi.To was reportedly engineered to meet U.S. safety and emissions regulations, so it can't be too long considering that large hurdle. It is selling at what would be equivalent to 32K in Europe, so the junior hatch will more than likely sell like hotcakes if it is offered at that price tag.
